Welcome to the CWC 2010 Web Site. You can access the site at any
time from the following URL:
http://cwc.quist.ca/Please make a permanent note of the web site so that you can find the following information again at any time. Also by keeping a note of the web site, you can tell others where to get this information. (Note that < www > is NOT part of the URL.) Many will get word of this announcement more than once. BUT some who are eligible, especially those without current email addresses known to us, will NOT receive it at all unless someone forwards it to them or prints it to hand or post to them. So if you have any doubt as to whether someone who might be interested has received this notice, please pass it along. |
| 1. FOR WHOM? | Missionaries (and their children) who are based in Europe and are associated with EOS, CMML, MSC, AMT, GCIM. This means they come from Brethren assemblies in English-sending countries. Also eligible are missionaries who are from and/or working with Brethren assemblies even if they are not with one of these service agencies. However, we ask that those in this category, if you have not attended before, before registering write to dtinder@etf.edu to introduce yourself and confirm your eligibility. This would also apply to those who for some reason are not in the current handbooks of these agencies. Also we of course encourage representatives from these service agencies and (if there is room) a few visiting relatives of missionaries. The purpose is to give a chance to receive ministry in English for those who are normally giving out to others, and for fellowship, encouragement, and recreation. | ||||||||||||||||

| 2. WHEN? | Lord willing, check-in starts at 3 PM on Saturday, 14 August 2010 and the conference ends with breakfast Friday, 20 August 2010. | ||||||||||||||||
| 3. WHERE? | At a family resort called Pre-du-Lac, part of the RelaiSoleil and Ternelia systems, just south of the village of St. Jorioz. It is about 50 km south of Geneva (the closest airport if flying) and 10 km south of the city of Annecy, and is just 400 meters west of Lake Annecy. The resort is located in a fenced-in park of five hectare (12 acres) with a fenced-in swimming pool, tennis courts and other on-site recreation. (Lots of off-site activities also available nearby.) For more information and views, check out the website: www.pre-du-lac.com (click on "UK version" if you don't read French). | ||||||||||||||||
| 4. PROGRAM? | John Lennox, who was greatly appreciated when he ministered to us in 2002 as well as earlier years, is again scheduled to be the speaker. John is to minister to the adults at the morning sessions. There are elective workshops in the afternoons led by various conferees and special gatherings in the evenings. The afternoons give free time for relaxation, recreation and outings. John is a University of Oxford Fellow in Mathematics and Philosophy of Science at Green Templeton College as well as being a popular conference speaker and writer especially on apologetics. For more information, see his website www.johnlennox.org. In addition there are separate morning and evening gatherings for teenagers and school-age children, and sessions for younger children, and a nursery for toddlers and babies during the mornings. (You may hear messages and see the group photo from the last two years by adding /2009 or /2008 to the URL and scrolling down.) | ||||||||||||||||
| 5. IMPORTANT! | The various activities are led and the duties and chores performed by the conferees (except for the meal service and the adult speaker and the youth/children leaders). Information is eventually sent to those who register to obtain your preferences for responsibilities. Everyone is expected to help with at least one agreed upon task except those paying the full cost, or who are ailing/handicapped, or who are mothers with young children. You may choose duties that are basically done before the conference or during or both. Also toleration is expected for different customs as practiced among the assemblies from and to which we go. (We are multicultural as well as multinational.) | ||||||||||||||||
| 6. CAPACITY? | Since there are a limited number of places you must REGISTER EARLY to be sure of a place. In addition, if enough register early enough, we will be able to guarantee having the center all to ourselves. Also the reduced rates for missionaries are only guaranteed for the first 100 adults and first 50 children/teens who register since the grants we expect to receive aren't unlimited. So please register now. | ||||||||||||||||
| 7. COST? |
The resort charges 339 euros for room and board for six nights and
17 meals for each person aged 16 and over, and reduces that by 50%
for ages 3-5, 30% for 6-10, 15% for 11-13, 10% for 14-15. There is
no charge for those who have not reached their 3rd birthday. BUT
because of grants we receive from Christian friends, and our desire
to encourage families to be able to come, conferees will be charged
as follows (based on age on first day of conference) which is a
50% reduction for eligible adults and a huge 70% reduction for children
and teens. Since it is a weekly rate, there is no further reduction
if you have to arrive a little late or leave a little early.
If because of some unanticipated development, we find we have to refigure the charges, then you may of course withdraw your registration. Besides reducing the charges to all missionaries, we also use the grants (1) to cover the full charges for those who come to lead the children and youth and minister to the adults (2) to assist those who need substantial travel assistance. (Thanks to grants from those who wish to be sure no one is excluded solely because of funding, in recent years it has also been possible to provide up to 100% help for the charges to a very few families who need it, especially if they have demonstrated their interest by attending at times in the past. It might be possible to provide this again. If you might fit into this category, contact our treasurer: gerard@chalvet.org). |
||||||||||||||||
| 8. VISITING RELATIVES? | Although primarily for missionaries, we also allow, if there is room, visiting family members to attend who would be happy to fit in with the programs that we have. They would of course pay the amounts charged by the resort and not have the reduction nor travel aid. However, if helping significantly, such as in the nursery, we could consider reduced charges if requested. | ||||||||||||||||
| 9. FINANCIAL AID FOR TRAVEL EXPENSES? | Yes, possibly, if needed and applied for! The assumption is that those who can drive (or take the train or coach) to the site in one day will NOT apply for financial assistance under normal circumstances. But we wish to make the travel costs a little less uneven for those who are more than a day's journey away by making significant grants to those who apply for them (so long as our funds allow!). We hope this will permit more attendance by those who take two or more days driving or must come by plane, train, coach, ferry or some combination thereof. To encourage you to find the cheapest realistic way (and these usually require reserving way ahead) we hope to pay at least 75% of economy fares (and then car rental fees if that is the most cost effective way). You must REGISTER BEFORE APPLYING FOR A TRAVEL GRANT with the understanding that you may withdraw if the amount we can grant you is insufficient. (If you wish to drive your own vehicle two or more days to get to the site, we will also consider travel assistance and negotiate what a fair sum would be.) | ||||||||||||||||
| 10. COMING BY TRAIN? | If you come by train and arrange with us in advance, we will meet you at the ANNECY station 12 km away. As soon as you know your arrival time, contact John Pickbourne jojo.pickbourne@sfr.fr and expect to hear back from him. | ||||||||||||||||
| 11. COMING BY PLANE? | The closest international airport is GENEVA-COINTRIN about 50 km away. We will arrange to meet those who fly there provided you give us sufficient advance notice. As soon as you know your arrival day & time, airline & flight no. contact John Pickbourne jojo.pickbourne@sfr.fr and expect to hear back from him. Here are the direct links to the Geneva airport: www.gva.ch/en and www,genevaairport.net. In your planning be sure to check out the low cost airlines that fly to Geneva. Alternatively it could be more economical to fly to Paris or Grenoble or a different Swiss airport and then take the train or rent a car or van, provided the arrangements are made in advance. ANY QUESTIONS RELATED TO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS are to be addressed to John Pickbourne. | ||||||||||||||||
| 12. COMING BY AUTO? | For those coming by automobile: The resort is just south of the village of St. Jorioz which is on the west side of the large Lake Annecy off the road (D1508) connecting the city of Annecy (to which most of those driving will head) and the city of Albertville (which a few of you may come by way of). If coming via Annecy, head toward it on the A41 toll road, then take the Annecy South (Sud) exit and follow signs so as to go in the direction of Albertville. Soon, after many twists, you will be heading south from Annecy and will pass through the village of Sevrier before coming to St. Jorioz. As you leave St Jorioz take the first little road to the right (it will be after the campgrounds), soon cross the bicycle path and then turn right immediately, following the signs to Le Pre du Lac and the RelaiSoleil chain of which it is a part. (There might be a Ternelia sign also).. (If you pass a restaurant called Le Clos Marcel or reach the village of Duingt, you missed the turn off of the road south of St. Jorioz, so go back and try again!) Or, if you are coming from Albertville toward Annecy, after you leave the village of Duingt take the first road to the left (which will be before you get to St.Jorioz and after a restaurant called Le Clos Marcel). Then follow as above. | ||||||||||||||||
| 12REGISTRATION FEE? | There is NONE, BUT to discourage late cancellations, which seriously disrupt planning, every adult who registers agrees that UNLESS they have cancelled their registration before the first of July, then in Sept 2010, if requested, they will transfer 50 Euro (or equivalent) from their Echoes, CMML, MSC or bank account to the conference account with CMML. | ||||||||||||||||
| 13. REGISTRATION PROCEDURE |
Click here for on-line registrationRegistration is OPEN NOW For EACH person planning to come the following information is required: (ON SEPARATE LINES)
If you wish to see who else plans to attend (so far) -- or perhaps doublecheck to be sure that you personally have registered -- you may go to the web address and add /view.php to see the registrations received. IF YOU NEED AN OFFICIAL INVITATION TO OBTAIN A VISA you must contact the secretary of our legal association before June 30: Rebecca Moffitt at cbc.france@gmail.com If, after registering, you find that you must CANCEL one or more members of your party, then send emails as soon you know to russ@quist.ca , dtinder@etf.edu and gerard@chalvet.org. Be sure to receive acknowledgments that your cancellation has been recorded. Otherwise, as has happened before, you may think you have cancelled and the conference doesn't know it. If unable to register online, email russ@quist.ca with the above details OR post them to Gerard Chalvet, 176, Impasse George Sand, 38920 Crolles, FRANCE. |
||||||||||||||||
| 14. TRAVEL GRANT APPLICATION PROCEDURE | First, you must register as specified above. Then find out the cheapest reasonable costs for you and your family. This will take some effort and most likely the use of the Internet. It may require some good faith estimates. Seats, especially cheaper ones, are limited, so it pays to reserve as soon as you can. Submit your request for a travel grant as soon as you learn the charges, but no later than the first of March, to our treasurer: gerard@chalvet.org. We will make decisions in view of the amount available and the amounts requested by the end of March. (Possibly some travel aid may be available if you miss the above deadline, but don't count on it.) If, because of limitations on the travel grant funds, we are unable to grant you a sufficient amount, you are then free to withdraw your registration, so go ahead and register now even if your actual attendance is contingent upon receiving significant travel aid. E-mailed travel grant applications will be acknowledged within a few days of receipt. If you don't get a confirmation, send a follow-up email to inquire. REMEMBER, questions regarding specific carriers, schedules and the like go to John Pickbourne. Only the travel grant request comes to Gerard Chalvet to bring before the sub-committee. Those who have to pay in advance for plane or train tickets would normally have the grant provided in advance. Those who are driving a long distance would normally have the grant credited against their conference fee and receive any further amount at the conference. In either case, grant recipients must bring receipts for travel expenses so that we can have the required records should we be audited. |
